Иосиф Ротблат

Иосиф Ротблат (4 ноября 1908, Варшава — 2005) — физик и общественный деятель, доктор наук.

Биография

1932 год — окончил Варшавский университет. Защитил докторскую диссертацию. Чедвик заприметил И. Ротблата по научным результатам пригласил работать в свою лабораторию.

1938 год — Иосиф Ротблат переезжает из Варшавы в Англию: занимается исследованиями в области ядерной физики.

1941 год — в Англии: вошел в группу по разработке атомной бомбы.

1944 год — переезжает в США, оставаясь задействованным внутри того же проекта, поскольку премьер-министр Черчилль и президент США Рузвельт приняли решение о создании объединенной программы, получившей название "Манхэттенский проект".

После катастрофы в Хиросиме и Нагасаки, начал активное выступление с лекциями, направленными против угрозы применения ядерного оружия. Под углом своего личного мировоззрения Иосиф Ротблат отказывается от участия в Манхэттенском проекте и, подписав обещание о неразглашении сведений о ведущихся работах по созданию атомного оружия, вернулся в Англию.

Понимая что атомная энергия может быть использовано и в созидательном аспекте, Иосиф Ротблат начинает работать в медицинском институте (становится экспертом по вопросам влияния радиации на здоровье людей). В 1955 году Бертран Рассел и Альберт Эйнштейн собирают группу ученых для обсуждения этой проблемы. Результатом явилось заявление, названное Рассел-Эйнштейновским манифестом, положившим начало Пагуошской Конференции, призывающей к контролю над ядерным вооружением и с 1957 года созываемой ежегодно: в течение многих лет (1957—1973 гг.) Иосиф Ротблат являлся Генеральным секретарем Конференции — в 1988 году он стал президентом этой Конференции.

Награды и премии

1995 год — награжден Нобелевской премией мира.

Многие страны отметили результативность вклада Иосифа Ротблата в дело мира высокими и почетными наградами.
