ShadmotMechola was established as a Nahal settlement named Shelah in 1979, and was converted to a civilian settlement by residents of Mehola in 1984. It began as a Religious MoshavShitufi (collective Moshav). Many of the Nahalsoldiers who served here made ShadmotMechola their home, strengthening and developing the community. In the beginning of the 1990's the MoshavShitufi decided to open its gates for community absorption and to accept families who are not part of the Collective Moshav. A "Hesder" Yeshiva was founded within the community bringing many new, young families. Since then, the community has grown from 30 families to 110 families living here today.

The community has a central synagogue, mikva, grocery, communal meeting hall, medical clinic, dental clinic, swimming pool, library (incl. a separate Torah library), basketball and volleyball courts, soccer field and three playgrounds.

  Our educational philosophy focuses on Torah and respect (DerechEretz), love for mankind, the Land and the Nation – this isan important characteristic of the community as many of its residents are involved in education. There is a daycare center on the premises for children ages 0-3 as well as two kindergartens, a youth lounge, and a BneiAkiva branch with over 100 chanichim. The majority of our elementary school children learn in the "Shaked" regional elementary school located in KibbutzSdeEliyahu, while  some of the  boys study in the Talmud Torah in BeitShean. For high school the children attendvarious different Yeshivot andUlpanot around the country or continue their studies at the local high school in SdeEliyahu.  Upon graduation, most of the girls volunteer for two years doing significant national service and the boys study in Yeshiva or Mechina programs before they are drafted into the army. Our community is home to a "Hesder" yeshiva with 100 students as well as a guest house for people planning family vacations or schools on yearly field trips.

Members of the community make a living working in education, agriculture, free professions (lawyers, doctors, occupational and physical therapists, engineers etc) and service providers (social workers, insurance agents, etc.). The Yishuv is conducted as a Community Association (AgudaKehilatit) incorporating all community members, agricultural (collective) and communal. The management committee is comprised of five members who are elected by the community in elections which take place every two years. They function as the Board of Directors and are responsible for the social and economic management of the community. Members of the community are active and involved as they volunteer on the various committees: culture committee, religious service committee, education committee, mutual aid committee etc. The Management appoints a Municipal Secretary whose job is to manage the Yishuv and its employees, the community coordinator and youth coordinator.

The Yishuv Rabbi, Rav Elisha Fixler, serves in a central position in the community. ShadmotMechola sees its Rabbi as a spiritual leader and educational figure.  The Rabbi is active and available during times of joy and G-d forbid, times of sorrow. The Rav is involved in the education committee and his opinion is decisive on Halachic, communal and social issues.

The Agricultural Association incorporates 28 families, founding members ofShadmotMechola, and manages almost all agricultural activities. Its members are also members of the Community Association. The Agricultural Associationis run in a collective form. Шадмот-Мехола находится на севере долины, в 69 км от Иерусалима, в 74 км от Тель-Авива и в 71 км от Хайфы. В 2011 году его население составляло 508 человек.[1] Поселение входит в региональный совет Иорданской долины.

История

Поселение было основано в 1979 году в качестве одного из поселений НАХАЛЬ и названо «Шелах», преобразовано в гражданское поселение в 1984 под названием Мехола.[2] Оно получило свое название в честь библейского города Абель-Мехола (1-я Книга Царств 19:16), располагавшегося в этой местности.

Правовой статус

Шадмот-Мехола находится на территории, которая была занята Израилем в Шестидневной войне 1967 г. Израиль контролирует эту территорию, но (на данный момент) не аннексировал ее. Иордания, которая в 1948-1967 гг. контролировала эту территорию, отказалась от нее. В настоящее время эта территория не имеет чьего-либо суверенитета, и управление на ней осуществляется Гражданской администрацией израильской армии.

Шадмот-Мехола построен на государственных землях, на которых не распространяется никакое частное арабское владение, а также на участках, купленных у арабских частных владельцев. По соглашениям Осло, посёлок находится в зоне С, находящейся под полным израильским контролем.
